Design Services

Anywhere!

Robert Klob Designs is regularly contacted from individuals and builders alike to design projects outside of our home state of Arizona. While many see this as a challenge – we welcome the opportunities.  Robert Klob Designs, Inc. has structured our business to make it easy for our long distance clients.  Utilizing today’s technology, we can exchange plans across town or around the world just as quick.  We email plans in a standard PDF format that can be printed on any printer.  We can review via phone or you can email comments back to us, then in a few days you get a new, revised version.  Everyone is busy today and we have found that this way the review takes place at your convenience and we don’t have to coordinate a face to face meeting.  An added bonus is that during a phone meeting, we can make the updates during the call then email – within seconds you have the revised plan and can comment.

One recent project RKD designed in Virginia went thru this process with the general contractor and the client.  We were able to email and have 3-way phone calls with the client, the contractor and our office, then email the revised plans during the conversation to all the parties for their comments.  Once that project was done, the general contractor commented about the process, saying “It was easier to design a home with clients and RKD that were thousands of miles apart than it is with the architect that is only a mile from my office”.

What if I need you to see the site or if there is an issue during construction?

Robert Klob will personally visit your site should you need for any reason.  Our only requirement is that you pay all travel costs such as airfare, hotel and car for the amount of time needed.  If the time is outside of the original scope of work, there will be an hourly charge for the time specifically spent on your project.  Travel time and per diem will not be billed for projects 2 days or less.

Here is a recent scenario for a project in San Jose, California.

The meeting with the building official was to be in the morning, so Mr. Klob flew out on an early morning flight.  He was met at the airport by the client and they traveled to meet with local municipality and then the contractor at the job site.  Notes and designs were prepared at the jobsite on a laptop computer and emailed to the client, contractor and building official while on site.  After the meeting, the client returned him to the airport for an evening flight home the same day.

The cost to the client for this trip was for the round trip airfare only! Because we were able to plan this trip out a few weeks in advance, the total cost was less than $300.  However, because of the meeting, Robert was able to save the client about 2 weeks in time and nearly $4,000 in added costs the building official was attempting to require.

Designs for YOU - wherever YOU are!

What if I DON’T need you to see the site?

It’s simple - we don't visit!  We do not want you to spend any more money than you have to.

Phone calls, emails and even Skype work very well in most situations.
